TRI-COUNTY SENIOR GOLF RULES AND EXCEPTIONS

·           HAVE FUN!

  • USGA RULES:  Play will be by the USGA Rules of Golf except for local course rules and Tri-County Senior Golf League modifications listed below.  The Rattlewood Golf Professional will be consulted when necessary.
  • HANDICAPS:  Each tournament will be handicapped using USGA rules.  Handicaps will be updated and posted weekly the day of the tournament. The maximum handicap is 36.
  • MOVING YOUR BALL: - Ball may be rolled within 6 inches in the Rough or Fairway).  Mud can be cleaned from the ball at anytime. Ball resting in footprints, etc. in sand traps can be lifted and placed in the sand near the footprint, etc.
  • LOST BALL: Take a one-stroke penalty and drop a ball in the first cut of rough (not in the fairway) near the area the ball was lost, no closer to the hole.
  • OUT OF BOUNDS:  Take a one stroke penalty and drop a ball in the first cut of rough within two club lengths of where it went out of bounds.
  • STROKES: All strokes are to be counted, including penalties – no “gimmes”.  Maximum score of double par per hole (max of 6 for par 3; max of 8 for par 4; max of 10 for par 5.  Make sure your score is reported and recorded correctly.  After the round, check your score.  The foursome member with the lowest handicap will be responsible for keeping score and submitting the score card.
  • MATCH PLAY:   Since you will be playing MATCH PLAY and STROKE PLAY during the same round use only STROKE PLAY USGA Rules for all rounds with one exception.  USGA rules for Match Play will be followed for players arriving late to the course.
    • Matches for the Individual and Two-man Team Match Play Championships must be completed within the stated monthly dates.  This is necessary in order to complete the Individual and the Two-man Team Matches by the end of the year.  An exception will be made for the final match.  Matches for the Individual Match Play Championship will be prioritized over matches for the 2-Man Team Match Play Championship.
    • Matches will be randomly scheduled the Monday evening for all players scheduled to play the next Tuesday morning.
    • If any player cannot play by the last week of the stated monthly period, he will forfeit the match.  There will be no stated period for the final round.
    • If both players agree, matches can be played at Challedon or any other course or at any other time in order to get the match competed within the 3-week period.
    •  Matches that result in ties will be determined by sudden death immediately following the match if the course is available or the following week, unless it is the last week of the stated monthly period.  If the tie occurs on the last week of the stated monthly period and the course is not available to play off the tie, the tie will be resolved by sudden death by going to the number one handicap hole, if still a tie, go to the number 2 handicap hole, etc. until a player wins the hole.
    • For the Individual Match Play Championship the handicaps of the two players will be subtracted to determine how many strokes the lower handicap player gives to the higher handicap player.  The strokes will be given in the order of the hole handicap beginning with the number 1 handicap hole as shown on the scorecard.
    • For the 2-Man Team Match Play Championship use the strokes shown on the scorecard (i.e. do not subtract handicaps).
    • If during a match a hole is not won within the max stroke rule, the players will continue past the max score to determine the winner of the hole.  A player cannot win or tie the hole by picking up his ball at the max score. He must continue to hole-out until the hole is won or tied.  For example, on a par three, one player has putted in for a 5 net 4.  The player who gets two handicap strokes is putting for a 6. This player cannot pick-up and takes a 6 for a net 4.  He must continue to putt-out to see if the hole is tied or lost.  Players must not pick-up until the hole is tied or lost.  If he picks up and does not put out, he will lose the hole.  Put the gross score, not the max on the scorecard for this hole.  The max score will be counted for stroke play.
  • BALL IN PLAY: You may change ball at anytime without penalty.
  • READY GOLF: You may hit out of turn at any time without penalty.
  • WATER HOLES:  Balls hit from tee into the water shall be considered a lost ball.  Take a one stroke penalty and hit your next shot from the DROP AREA or on the other side of the water if no drop area is designated.
  • SHORT HITTERS:  For those that know they cannot hit the ball over the water holes may drop a ball on the other side of the water hazard where you will be hitting your second shot.  No penalty stroke is counted.
  • 6TH HOLE AT CHALLEDON:   Carts are not allowed on the 6th hole at Challedon.  Those players that feel they cannot traverse the steep hill in front of the tee on he 6th hole are allowed, in lieu of hitting their drive, to drop the ball at the top of the hill in the rough where the fairway begins and hit there 2nd  shot without penalty.
  • SUPER-SENIORS: Any member that feels they have reached a point in their golf career that they will enjoy the game more if they play from the red tees may do so.  You will need to let the Tournament Chairman know so that your handicap will be based on using the red tees.

If there are doubts as to a questionable situation or dispute during the round please play a provisional ball.  After the round the group should check with the Tournament Chairman before turning in your scorecard.  The Tournament Chairman will render a decision with the assistance of the Rattlewood Golf Professional, if necessary.  The decision rendered will be final for the round. If you think there has been an error in reporting your score please let me know.  The score cards will be available to review the following week if necessary.
